Anthropic has unveiled Cowork, a new agentic AI feature for Claude Desktop that can directly interact with a user's file system. Unlike traditional AI assistants that only respond in chat, Cowork can navigate directories, open files, make edits, and execute complex multi-step tasks.
'This is a fundamental shift in how people interact with AI,' said an Anthropic spokesperson. 'Instead of telling Claude what to do and copying the results manually, Cowork can actually do the work for you.'
The feature is rolling out to Claude Pro and Team subscribers starting today. Early tests show productivity improvements of up to 40% for common file-based workflows.
