The Rust Foundation has announced the creation of the Maintainers Fund, a dedicated financial resource for developers who maintain critical infrastructure in the Rust ecosystem. The fund will provide grants, resources, and direct financial support to maintainers of popular Rust crates and tools.
'Open source maintainers are the unsung heroes of the software world,' said the Rust Foundation Executive Director. 'This fund ensures that the people keeping the Rust ecosystem running can dedicate their time and energy without financial burden.'
Initial funding of $2 million has been contributed by AWS, Google, Microsoft, and Mozilla. Applications will open next quarter.
